Brave New World

Brave New World was a interesting book and might not be a book that I would read on my own. I am glad that I did read it because it made you think about if life would ever be like that. I learned that fitting in and going with the flow of things is what is supposed to happen in the book and if you challenge it you get in trouble. They make people smarter or dumber in order to keep society happy and everything running smoothly.

I learned that seeing multiple people at a time is what they want. They do not have mothers and fathers. This is all considered normal to them. They program people to do certain jobs and have a certain intellectual level. This allows them to have a life with no problems and keeps everyone happy. People are scared to think outside of the box and challenge society. I can see some of this in our society today. Many people end up like sheep and are always in a herd doing what they are told and believe is right. People today are still scared to branch out and challenge societal norms.

In order to make sure I do not get caught up in the herd I will have to take a step back at times and reevaluate things in life. I do not want to become a sheep that believes and follows everything that society tells me to do because I am scared to find out the truth or have my own beliefs. Over this long break I have started listening to podcasts. There are a couple of them that I really like and they are not afraid to speak their mind even if it may hurt them.

End of Year Advice/Review

Some or my favorite assignments from this year were the job shadow and the career paper. I thought that the job shadow was a fun experience and a good way to see what careers actually do. I also liked the career paper because of the different test we took to see what our interest were and it was cool to see those results. I also think that it will help me in the future because of all the research I did. It will help me better understand some jobs that I am interested in. Also, writing the paper with APA will help me for college because I will already have an understanding of what is expected in one.

My least favorite thing about class was probably the vocab cards. They were just time consuming and I was not the biggest fan of them. I also wish that we could have picked our own seating arrangement more. Otherwise, I really enjoyed it. Some advice for next year and future seniors is to never take anything for granted, because it can all get taken away. It may sound cliche but it actually happened this year. I would just say enjoy every minute of high school and take advantage by going to all of the events and make everyday a fun experince because those 4 years fly by.

Satire Project

I learned a lot about satire from this project. I learned that satire is everywhere. I also learned about the different types of satire and how to recognize and find it. There are 6 different kinds of satire and they are reversal, horatian, juvenalian, parody, incongruity, and exaggeration. An example of horatian is from a amazon echo SNL skit and it just makes fun of old people dealing with technology and how they act.

We had juvenalian as our satire topic. We were planning on doing an escape room in Halls room. The clues that we were going to give would have been memes from our videos that we picked to show the class. We thought that it would have been a fun idea to use the memes from our videos and then watch everyone attempt to figure out the escape room. It would have also been fun to see what the other groups had planned and the videos that they picked out, but instead coronavirus had to happen.

Hamlet vs Lion King

There were many similarities between Hamlet and Lion King. The circle of life represents the Yorik speech and that everyone is equal in death. Another similarity is when Mufasa appears to Simba is just like when Old Hamlet showed up by Hamlet. Some differences are that we do not get to see Hamlet as a young kid like we get to see Simba. Another difference is that Nala does not die but Ophelia does.

I did not realize that the movie was so similar to the play. I was surprised that there were so many similarities. I wonder what other movies are related or have many similarities to Hamlet. I did not know that so many new movies could still be related to old plays.

Hamlet Reflection

Hamlet was a very entertaining story. Hamlet acted mad during the entire story while plotting revenge for his fathers death. During this time many people died on accident and on purpose. Hamlet was the cause for the deaths. He was very indecisive and this lead to his death because he did not kill Claudius earlier. I learned that thinking and waiting to take action may not be the best idea because it will just drag the situation out longer.

I liked when Hamlet said ¨If my thoughts are not violent, then consider them worthless.¨ I like this quote because he is done waiting around and is finally going to do something about his fathers death. I think that this relates to todays world because people take to long to take action and can lead to the downfall of others. The only part I do not like about the quote is that it talking about violence and not all action needs to be violent.

I think that the song SAD-by Xxxtentacion relates to act 3 very well. I think it relates so well because act 3 was dark and sad, because Hamlet is going crazy and is disrespectful to people and then he ends up killing polonius. The song is also very dark and sad. I think the tone as well as the lyrics really connect to this act.

Senior Shadow

I learned a lot from the APA career research paper. I found out a lot about careers that I was interested in. I am still not 100% sure about which career I want so learning about some that I have been interested helped a lot with finding one that I like the most. I was excited to see what actual happens during the day and see how it compares to what I learned and read about it.

The job shadow went well. I shadowed some people at the ARC and I learned a lot. I always wondered what actually went on during the day. I learned that there was a lot of planning and sitting at computers doing work. I did not know that they did that so much. It makes sense because they have to plan out all of the activities and programs that they offer. I went to some meetings and watched how they planned things out for the upcoming events. I did really enjoy my time spent there.

APA Paper Reflection

I learned that there is a lot more that goes into an APA paper vs a MLA paper. I did like how it broke everything up with the bolded points and subpoints. That was something new that I have not seen. I also did not know that we had to write an abstract. Also, the into is usually a short paragraph but for APA it was almost a full page. All of this was new to me.

I hated decluttering the most. This takes a lot of time because I had a lot of clutter and it is hard to not use the clutter words. I chose to do 3 sub points for each main point. This allowed me to only write 1 paragraph instead of 2 paragraphs for each. Getting enough information for each point was difficult. I think that this will help me when I am in college and they make us write an APA paper because I will already have experience with it.

Myers-Briggs Personality Blog

I got ESTP as my personality. This is an entrepreneur personality. I was surprised at first and thought this is wrong. The more that I read about it the more I was able to make connections and thought it was fairly accurate. However, there were still some things that I disagreed with.

I thought it was interesting that it said these personality types love the thrill of competition. I thought that it seemed to fit me very well. One of the things that I did not agree with was that entrepreneurs were bold and wanted to be the center of attention. This does not sound like be because I am more of a quiet person. I liked taking the test and wanted to see how accurate it would be. I would say it was pretty accurate and would recommend it.

Morte D’Arthur Reflection

The Medieval Romance qualities are shown throughout A Knights Tale and Morte D´Arthur. Both show all 6 qualities of the Medieval Romance time period. They idealize knights and the chivalry code. Both protagonists are kings or knights on a quest and there is a mystery/suspense, a magical setting, and the repetition of 3 &7. King Arthur and his knights of the round table are on a quest for the holy grail while Sir Thatcher is on a quest to become the best knight and defeat his foe.

Today, when people hear Medieval Romance they think of a love story. This is incorrect because they are adventure stories about knights and kings. We also see the qualities of the Medieval Romance qualities in today´s readings and movies. We see characters follow the knight code and they are usually on a quest. These qualities come from the Medieval Romance time period and we will continue to see them in the future.

Sir Gawain and The Green Knight Reflection

I learned a lot about a knights chivalry from Sir Gawain. Sir Gawain stepped in and fought for the king. This shows his loyalty towards him and how much he cares. Later on in the story he also tracks down the green knight just like he told him to do. The green knight was impressed that he kept his word and came for the fight. These are just two examples of chivalry and the knights code that they live by.

I think that the language has changed a lot. Compared to the canterbury tales, this story was hard to read and follow when reading in our group. We had to stop and discuss what was happening many times. I have never read this story before or heard much about it. When the green knights head was chopped off and he picked it up and kept talking, I was very surprised. Later we learned that it was his magical armour and that he had special abilities. I saw many qualities throughout the story about the chivalry code and now have a better understanding of them.
